Installed new version 5.4.2 but can't sign in to my site now

Today I installed the new concrete5 version 5.4.2 and everything seemed okay until I signed out of my site. Now when I try to sign back in through the administrative login I enter my correct username and password but I am sent back to my site's homepage with no dashboard after clicking sign in. I usually sign in by going to the bottom of my site where it says "sign in to edit this site" and that takes me to the administrative login. But now when I sign in it just takes me back to the same page with no dashboard. Is there any other way to sign in to the site editor? and is anyone else having this problem?
Well, when I sign in it takes me right back to my home page with no dashboard and it still says "sign in to edit this site" at the bottom so I guess that would mean I'm not signed in. But thank you for trying to help.
I'm having a similar problem. Just installed the update, can not log in and keep receiving the error message:
mysql error: [1054: Unknown column 'uDefaultLanguage' in 'field list'] in EXECUTE("select uID, uName, uIsActive, uIsValidated, uTimezone, uDefaultLanguage from Users where uName = 'admin' and uPassword = '5fd50242cc4a3cee7566bb2c360f372f'")
I have tried to reset my password numerous times and keep receiving this error message. I'm not sure what steps to take to fix this problem.

Before installing the update did you turn off pretty urls?
As far as I remember, I never enabled my pretty urls.
Although you are not being re-directed, are you logged in?
A new install might mean a new re-direct to the dashboard?
If you are logged in, go to dashboard/users/registration/ and set the re-direction.
Or I might be completely wrong?
