loss of content on reinstall

I had a bit of a problem with my recent install. I did a couple of days work on design and content but then I couldn't access database and had to delete it and start again. I copied all the folders and files to my hard drive. Am I right in thinking that I will have lost all the content as I wasn't able to back up database? I don't suppose any of the content is likely to be in the folders I copied over is it?
You are right. Every information is stored in database whenever a block or page content is added/edited or deleted.
Thanks - I thought so. Actually I have since found out that I did back up the database but when I tried to reimport it, it came up with some mysql errors and a load of repeated notes on how to upgrade concrete which presumably is from the read me document!
sorted now - I found the old database, did a partial back up of mysql and then reimported that into the new one and I have my content back.
