Memory error on update download
Permalink
Hi all,
Apologies if this is a really dumb question, but why would I be getting this error when try to download the 8.2.1 update?
"Allowed memory size of 94371840 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 44231031 bytes)"
Thanks!
Hart

It MIGHT be because installing the update could involve recreating thumbnails and/or resizing images you've uploaded, which can fail if you've uploaded images greater than a few megabytes. Does this sound plausible?
Well, the weird thing is that I'm only downloading the update. I'm not actually installing it yet.
I don't think I have any images over 1.5mb. I DO have some videos uploaded that are much larger, of course.

It can't be thumbnailing, then (although the critical size is the megapixels rather than the file size).
Without knowing what the problem actually is, you might be able to get past it by increasing memory_limit in php.ini (or equivalent), possibly via CPanel.

Thanks, Uza!
Strangely, right before you replied, I got an email from the DreamHost folks saying they had updated the download limit from 90mb to 256mb. (The 8.3 download is 94mb.)
Just updated to 8.3 without a hitch.
