Navigation gone after upgrade to 5.6

I upgraded my site from 5.4.1.1 to 5.6.1.2 and everything looks and works fine in edit mode. As soon as I exit edit mode, the navigation menu is gone and the page list to preview blog posts is gone. I sign back in. The navigation and page list are there. Exit edit mode. Gone.
Any thoughts?
