Newbie having trouble installing

On the initial install page, I get a "can't connect to database".

I've been on a quest to evaluate various CMS tools and have recently installed Drupal7, Joomla, Xoops, CMSmadeSimple, WordPress, E107, Textpattern, and a few non-DB versions like GetSimple. Ease of use, and simple to understand have been by goal.

I have an XAMPPLITE (localhost) setup and I've made separate root areas for each tool, which each their own Apache httpd.conf file.
For Concrete5, I created a Sql database with phpAdmin, just like I did for all the other installs. So far, Concrete5 has been the only tool I haven't gotten to first base with.

Does anybody have any suggestion what this Neanderthal is do wrong?
Thanks, Dennis

Don't think you need to have the port number.

Did you have a password? Maybe root?

I will try without the port assignment, but I do have port 8080 assigned in the Apache httpd.conf file. I pretty much followed the same path as all those other CMS installations. None of them complained about the port. Note, with xampplite running as configured, the only way to access files in the root area is "localhost:8080/whatever.php

In fact that's how the Concrete5 install page was invoked.

Also, I left the mySql account "root" password blank cause that's what was recommended by several of those other CMS installation. After-all this is only a local test setup.

I will try various changes and see what pops up, but clearly I'm shooting in the dark.
Thanks for you reply,
Dennis

Success. I obviously entered an invalid Server name. Used "Localhost" instead and install was successful.

Though still a newbie, my first impression of Concrete5 is very very good. The dashboard was intuitive and I had no problem understanding the basics. It's great that a visual layout is presented and it's clear on what to do to add additional pages. You'd be surprised on how those other Cadillac CMS's totally lack how to add a page to the menu. I often felt frustrated and lost with Drupal, Joomla, and Xoops.
I did not have that sense in going through the gears with Concrete5, and all this in only 10 minutes.

Will continue to evaluate, and post.

Glad your liking c5.

Personally I think it's the best in the world. Bottom line if my clients can easily pick it up and love it in a matter of minutes I'm sold.

That's the problem with Drupal and wordpress (great blog but it just isn't a cms)
