what do you mean no zip in webhost, all web hosts should be able to unzip a zip file, if they can't then they are a "ghetto" host

ubuntu has it by default, to get the update you need curl, can you install packages by using the save for later function?
Yes I can install themes and addons and save for later
then you have zip and curl, your server my have limits on, timeout, filesize or a couple other things
