Pages not linked properly

I recently reinstalled my Ubuntu LAMP. I was having problems with the error below until I cleared my /files/cache. The problem now is that my page nav returns a 404. I can view and edit the pages in sitemap - no problem. What are your suggestions?

weird thing... it was another mod_rewrite problem. mod_rewrite was enabled and the code placed in the .htaccess. I could access my pages using the *.php?lcId=31 or whatever the reference is when you edit pages. But, no 'pretty urls.'

The solution was to simply uncheck the 'pretty urls' box within the dashboard. That fix seems counter intuitive to me, but it works now...
