permision problems /files

I can't get concrete working well. It seems that every directory concrete makes into /files it's not writable by concrete. The user of all new directories is apache and not the user, and permissions is 755.

Please I tried several times to instal again, and change permissions manually, and change owner but then concrete makes new directory into /files with the wrong owner and permissions. Recursively" doesn't do the job either....

Like Joomla, when putting some directories to permissions 777, it works always.

I'm desparate! I consider to use Concrete for my clients but this installing problem must be solved.

Having the same problem. Moved site from WAMP - recursively changed permissions for files to 777 - still no luck.

can't log into admin section - cache write error - and my gallery thumbnails aren't appearing.

My client is getting very impatient with me...can someone please help.

Thanks

Are you using Plesk? I know that it uses a wired configuration where the owner of the php process doesn't match the directory owner...

I had to disable the creation of subdirectories in the files directory once

I'm not even sure what plesk is - would my phpinfo show if that's running? Don't see anything there.

it's a control panel for hosters...

It's possible that you use a similar configuration even without plesk.

I'd check file/directory owners. Who owns a file when you create it using ftp, who if you create one using php, who runs apache, who runs php..

With these information you're usually able to solve such issues

In my case, the installer installs new folders into /files with UID and GID named "apache" and automaticly set permisions on 755.
At uploading the install files all files and folders got UID and GID "corfides" and I changed the needed to 777.

BTW "corfides" is the username of the database.

Isn't it a problem of SAFEMODE? I can't put this off.
Other CMS systems works well with SAVEMODE on...

I've asked my host to help me - C5 seems to try and create folders or files as user 80 - my host administrator has changed all the permissions and users to 80 - but the problem still persists.

My client is running out of patience and I am not planning on rebuilding the entire system that works perfectly on localhost.

any further ideas?

The host is using cpanel and not plesk.

Thanks

Sigh Sigh Sigh

I have now tried the installation on 3 different servers and the problem still persists. Thumbnails aren't being created and I can't log into the admin area.

I urgently need help. The system works perfectly on WAMP localhost. If I don't find a solution I will HAVE to rebuild with a different CMS - which will be terrible.

Can someone please advise.

I really suggest you turn off safe mode as thatcan cause permission issues, if your host does not allow that i really suggest getting a new host

Thanks for the response.

I checked my server settings and according to phpinfo safe mode is off:

safe_mode: Off
safe_mode_exec_dir: no value
safe_mode_gid: Off
safe_mode_include_dir: no value

So probably not that?

Anyone have any other ideas...

It's easy to say to change a host. But that isn't allways possible if a client has already a contract with a host.
And all hosts (6 or 7) I worked with till now, all of them worked with safe mode on!

All other programms like Joomla, Oscommerce, MODX etc... can be installed on hosts with safe mode on. So why not Concrete???

This will be a real issue to not using concrete. And If you want that Concrete becomes a well know and used CMS, you have to change this.

Ok - tiny breakthrough

I moved the website in onto hostgator and i can now log into admin section - no more cachewrite error - BUT - my thumbnails are still not appearing...Any ideas?

I gave up in the end. Pity. Built it in Wordpress instead...will probably be a while,if ever, before I try C5 again. Undeniably a good system - but perhaps not quit mature enough yet.
