pretty url's

I've put the code in two of the .htaccess files I found in xammp (ubuntu) but no joy in getting it to work.
/opt/lampp/phpmyadmin/setup/lib/.htaccess
/opt/lampp/phpmyadmin/libraries/.htaccess
Have you any ideas how I can get pretty url's working in locahost using xampp in ubuntu.

You'll need to create a .htaccess file in the document root. This would be the folder that has the config, concrete, themes, files directories (along with quite a few more).
Wouldn't it be a good idea to to include the .htaccess file with the
download with the code commented out then all that needs to be done is to
uncomment the code. Just a suggestion.
