Re-instating database backup gives mysql error ... no access to anything but error page :(

*Update, this happened when re-instating a db backup that was a back up of the c5.4 in a site that had been upgraded to c5.5 ...
Attempted to restore a backup from the dashboard in Concrete 5.5.1
I'm not sure what to do, why I'm posting here, I don't have dashboard access ...
I tried downloading the sql backup files but they give me an error when manually dropping the database and attempting to re-import the backup.
I'm happy to answer questions, give site access etc to someone
... it's been a long day
