Retore from SQL File

Hello
I'm trying to restore a site on a different domain name. I have a new client and I want to duplicate their site on a subdomain and use a different database, a sandbox if you will, for eaxample - demo.customersite.com, and demo_customer_db_name.

I have searched this forum quite a bit so as not to waste anyone's time.

I have a couple of questions?
I can't see the restore sql file in the admin, I've placed the sql file in files/backup. What is the location for database backups, is this correct?

I did the fresh install with the files from the ftp download. That should be the same version and not the issue?

Will concrete5 not see the sql file for config reasons like database name and host being different?

I saw a post mentioning that addons not activated may cause the sql file not to show up, is this true?

Final question, should I just buy backup voodoo and not worry about this at all, will it do an easy restore with different config info and subdomain?

I've read these 2 posts although they are very informative they don't seem to address my problem.

Thanks for any info.
