root folder name

Hi, i have already a domain name and website running.
Now in C5 i want to make a whole new website.
I have installed everything - wamp - C5 and i am making now a website on a local host.
I was wondering if i have named the folder ok on my disk where wamp - C5 is installed.
My website (domainname) ishttp://www.johnvanzon.com
My folder is now called: F:\wamp\www\johnvanzon\....

Or should i make it: F:\wamp\www\johnvanzon.com\...??

And if i should do that, must i change more in C5??

Thx in advance,,
john

Little weird to understand. But I think you want to install the live site in your local setup. So you don't need to name your folder like your domain name. if you are going to download your server files as well as database, just make it sure to uncheck your sites pretty URL & clear your cache. Then download everything, create a folder in your wamp. Then put all the files over there. Setup the database & put the pretty URL on. It will automatically create the .htaccess to point that folder.

Well are you trying to start a fresh install in your local setup? If so the just create a folder in wamp/www/ and put the C5 installation files there. Then install it in a normal way. At the time of move to server, there is how-to available in C5 forum which will help you.

I strongly advise you to get a web hosting plan.
A few reasons:
1) It costs less than running a web server instance from home. It reduces your electricity bill, and it won't trigger your ISP's limits. Usually your ISP limits you by terms you don't know, which are considered "fair usage". It's about number of parallel connections, TTL and other factors.
2) Your home computer will NEVER be as well connected as a normal web host. There would be probably more than 30 connection "hops" between me and you if I want to open your website. It's not about your max download speed, but about connectivity. If you host your website from Zimbabwe and some guy from Iceland tries to open it, he really wouldn't want to.
3) Web hosts are generally hassle-free. Send an email to the support crew and you're good to go. And it's f!@#ing cheap.
4) Your web server WILL be insecure, alongside with all your data. You don't have the knowledge to protect it properly. Your computer will end up either as a botnet zombie or will uncover all your login credentials to some guy.

So if you are gonna use your home computer as a web host, go gethttp://xampp.org/ for Windows or whatever your OS is, and setup a test environment for development purposes. But when you wanna go live, do not, under any circumstance do it from your home PC.

I learned this the hard way. It's the Internet, even hacking gets automated.
