set names 'UTF8'

Hi,

I've had the following error when tried to install CMS:

mysql error: [1193: Unknown system variable 'NAMES'] in EXECUTE("SET NAMES 'utf8'")

In the past I've successfully installed it on other hosts, but this time a new host gave me this error and I've got no idea how to proceed.

Thanks for your help guys.

hsa

I wouldn't like to give this information out until it's completely necessary - hope you understand.

Hi,

Iam getting the same mysql error as HSA.

Does anybody know where to search for an solution?

My host in this case ishttp://www.interip.nl

Here you can find phpinfo. Dunno if that helps to find the problem:

Your MySQL database collation needs to be UTF-8.

If you have an access to phpMyAdmin... follow the screenshots of this page...

Yeah, I know... it's Japanese... but at least, the screenshot will help you how to change the collation.

Thanks Katz,

I do have the tab 'Operations' but I can't switch to an other collation setting, I don't see the option. But now I know what to tell my host :)

Thanks!

OK, thanks for the help.
Unfortunately it just turned out to be a much simpler solution: the host is on MySQL 4.0, and Concrete requires 4.1 as minimum.

Oke, my host is telling me to fix this problem with a php.ini thingy (?) ... I looked at it and I don´t know where to begin.

It would be great if someone got the time to help me.

Ps:
Is there a way to do a sort of ´C5 compatible host check´? I realy want to use C5 for my future projects.

Well it's not easy for noobs like me but I found the system requirements for C5 on this site :P and after an other call my host upgraded their old MySql version to a newer one.

I also called my host and they refused to upgrade. So I'll move to another one which doesn't use stone age technology. :)
