SMTP Revisited.

Issue (version: concrete5-8.1.0):
1) Working on a new site, when entering the client smtp server FQDN, we get an invalid domain message (paraphrasing). Domain = "domain_name.CA". This is a totally valid domain, seems C5 does not like ".CA" domains, we tried 4 different ones. .Com, .NET and several other extensions are fine, just not ".CA",
2) Cannot configure "smtp authentication". To be clear, the client server requires "Authentication" (Mailenable 8). This is the same setting configured in many email programs. The general rational for using "authentication" is to reduce spoofing, spam, relays etc - I'm sure everyone know this.

C5 is probably the most user friendly and robust CMS we have used in the past few years, but these issues have not been dealt with. The only reasonable "fix" we have is to use a "Google" account that does not require authentication.

Really, no one going to weigh in on this?

Let me add this, I get this error when sending a test message"
<<<
The following error was found while trying to send the test email:
Your domain does not seem to be valid. Could not find MX record for your domain.
>>>

The domain is valid (has been for years), is not blacklisted, has a valid MX record. This seems to happen with .CA domains. We have another client that we just rolled C% out to and this have a .COM domain - and it works fine. In fact (as already posted), this client has the same domain with a .COM extension - it works fine.

Crippled firewall, crippled AV and still no go.

domain: thepcdoctor.ca
stmp: smtp.thepcdoctor.ca

Check it out....

I get that this is an Open Source Project and everyone contributes time "freely and when available", but this is an old post and seems to be a real issue with C5 and NON .COM domains.

If no one can/will assist, please post a comment indicating so and I will mark this as complete/closed so as not to bother anyone further.

TX.

This seems to be an invalid error.

Instead of doing the test, simply save the settings. In a contact form (create a simple one), test it that way.

It worked fine when doing this way, for some reason the "Test" fails, but the actual form submission does work and will log all the submissions as well.

Edit: Maybe wrong, but this is what worked on a recent 5-8.1.o site...
