Sorting Image Files into Sets - Now Live Site Fails to Open

I am new to Concrete. Someone else set up this site - my task is to modify it by adding content/changing some graphics. I started by sorting images into sets when the page froze.
Basically: I selected several (4 or 5) images and tried to modify which set they were assigned to at the same time. The page did not update for several minutes. An error message was then displayed in the region where the thumbs of the files are typically visible. I logged out, and couldn't log in for several minutes. Also, my website would no longer load.
Now I can get into the site to edit pages and I thought that I was golden, but apparently the website itself still will not load.
Will missing or renamed images cause my pages not to load? If so, is there a way to revert back to an earlier file manager rather than hunt through all pages to find the error?
