Super Newb Needs Help
Permalink
Hello. I am a huge newb and appreciate any help I may be given. I had ImpressPages and was having issues, so without actually getting anything done on my site I decided to give C5 a try.
I downloaded C5 and used filezilla to upload it.
I used filezilla to delete any ImpressPages files, and am now getting this error when I type in my site's url:
"Not Found
The requested URL /install/ was not found on this server.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request."
My site has nothing on it, so I'm not at all concerned about loss of data. I appreciate any help possible.

Yes and yes, though I have to admit I'm not sure how to confirm steps 2-4 are as directed in the installation guide. Thank you for getting back to me.
Steps 2 and 3 are permissions, should be set to 755.
'mod_rewrite' is an Apache setting that your hosting provider will know about.

Okay, from what I can see those are set to 755. Thank you!
So you uploaded and extracted?
You should see 24 items, folders and files?
You created a database?
You do not see an installation screen?
If things don't look right perhaps you should just strip everything out and start afresh.
Any other info from your end to help with installation would be good.

The answer to all of your questions is yes. I think starting all over is probably my best bet at this point... In that case do I just delete all the files listed in filezilla under concrete5.5.2.1 and then reinstall them? I'm sorry I haven't given much more information, I'm just not sure what to give.
Yes clear the lot and start from scratch, might make things easier in the long run.
Okay, thank you so much. :)
My host's support person was able to help me. I just had to type my domain name followed by /concrete5.5.2.1 into my web browser to get to the install page. Of course it was something that easy...! Thank you both so much for your help.
I hope that is going to work okay for you.
I've never had to do it that way before!
But then different hosting providers have different ways of doing things.
Good luck
BTW, you WILL love C5 when you get used to it and it will love you back.

Did you unzip the Concrete5 file locally then upload all the files and directory structure?
