Themes throwing warning, not installing

Ok, at first I thought this was an issue with an individual theme, but as a good little troubleshooter, I've discovered that it happens no matter which theme I'm trying to install. So far, I have not tried it with another add-on, only themes. I'm brand spankin' new to concrete5, just trying it out and seeing if it will suit my needs, really.
So, the point: I used the quick-install from my webhost, and after futzing around a bit, decided to try out a different theme. I get the files associated and whatnot, go to the "add functionality" page (which it took me ages to find, and I'm not even sure where it is now, I think the link says "Extend" and "Install" and not add anything at all, but I'm rambling... to the point!) When I click the "download" button next to any theme, I get back a whole page full of warnings something like this:
Warning: copy(/home/mysite/public_html/concrete5/packages/themename/controller.php) [function.copy]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/mysite/public_html/concrete5/concrete/helpers/file.php on line 83
Which is true, as I then tried to do the manual installation of the theme by putting the unzipped zip file directly into the packages directory via ftp... no bones! the directory is a figment.
Did the quickinstall from the webhost utterly fail?
Am I reinstalling from scratch, (not too bad, methinks) or is this a minor hiccup with an even simpler solution?

I have the same problem, did you ever find a solution?
You are using hostgator, Hostgator's simple script install if flawed. It sets the user up without the majority of the override folders. You will need to ftp into the root directory and add the empty directories.

I was on similar problem, because another webmaster took the site, and leaves.
I solve it, this was my solution.
Go to site control panel.
Access the File Manager
Locate your concrete5 directories
Check the permisions for: Packages and Themes.
Set permisions to 777 for both directories.
Try again
