Total c5 Disaster, I've lost everything, nothing works

Hi all, I took advice and reinstalled MAMP. Now running MAMP 2.2 (not Pro).

I tried moving my htdocs and db directories over but none of my sites will connect. I thought I would try a fresh c5 install and start again from scratch. Even this won't work, I'm getting the below error on installation:
Unable to install database: Can't create/write to file '/Applications/MAMP/db/mysql/my_sitename/FileVersions.MYI' (Errcode: 2)

So now none of my c5 installations are accessible and I'm completely and totally stuck with deadlines galore and no way of moving forward.

Help!

As far as your new installation is concerned, I suspect mySQL thinks it never created the databases. Just copying the database files into wherever mySQL stores its data files is probably not the same as creating databases.

I don't know enough about mySQL or mac-os to provide a solution. There may be a database file recovery capability somewhere within mySQL you can try.

I had the same error on a new installation, if the current MySQL version is running it will be looking in that previous version for the files and cause an error (those files will have been removed on installation of the new version). I read the installation READ ME file afterwards!:

"*Note*: Before proceeding with the installation, be sure to shut down
all running MySQL server instances by either using the MySQL Manager
Application (on Mac OS X Server) or via `mysqladmin shutdown' on the
command line."

Solution: reinstall with the older version closed down

hope this helps someone else...
