Totally not able to even begin using concrete5

Hello,

I am trying to use concrete5 to build a few simple sites. i found c5 by googling and looking for a way to build websites without understanding code, because i have never built a site before and i know almost nothing about code.

i have tried to install c5 on my site and use it to build a site from scratch but im having a problem even getting out of the starting gate.

everytime i try to google for a solution, the answers or tutorials start at a point that is past the point where my problem has already happened.

let me tell you what i have done so far so someone who understands this stuff may actually tell me where ive gone wrong or what i need to do to get c5 up and running.
-i got my domain names through name.com
-i got my hosting through ipage.com
-i went to my registrar and on my domain i pointed it to ipage with an A file to the ipage IP address, and did the same for the www. version of each page. (i did nothing else on name.com in my DNS tools or whatever it is)
-i used simplescripts.com for what they said was a 1 click easy install.
-after the install appeared to complete successfully, i clicked on the [mydomain]/index.php/login and it showed up the c5 page where i can login, and then using the Admin and the password that simplescripts gave me for Admin i log in, and it redirects me to [mydomain].com, which sais 'this site is under construction' and doesnt look anything like concrete5. there is no dashboard, i see no further login anything, just a static page telling me the site is under construction.
-i talked to the ipage support and they said i should bring this question to the concrete5 community for better answers, because the ipage people had no idea.
-identical process happened when i tried to set up concrete5 on another domain that i wanted to use c5 to build a simple website for.

i googled this all night and went through about 40 different videos, tutorials, questions here on the forum, all looking for an answer to this problem but i came up empty handed. if it has happened to other people, it seems so basic of an issue that it was resolved easily, but that is beyond me.

i havent done anything other than what i listed here, so please dont assume any possible suggestions would be TOO basic or TOO obvious, because i assure you they probably are not.

ANY help i could get on this issue would be supremely appreciated. THank you in advance for helping out a newbie to these matters such as myself.

i really dont know much about setting up a website, but so far it has been all headaches and i feel like i havent even climbed the first rung of this ladder.

Ask your host how to setup a default page, (index.php) that is not ac5 issue but a host issue

I wonder if there's still a index.html file in your root along with the C5 installation. If so, it will take precedence over C5's index.php file. What happens if you just point your browser to "mydomain.com/index.php"?

What 12345j said. I think somehow your simplescripts has their default install in maintenance mode. When you login you'll be redirected to the homepage, which is the under construction page. You'll have to retype the url to the dashboard, and take the site out of maintenance mode. It should work after that.

Nah, the default C5 maintenance mode page says nothing about being under construction. Not only that, but the maintenance mode page has the C5 logo in the upper left, and the OP said that the page "doesn't look anything like concrete5".

The evidence, therefore, supports my hypothesis that what the OP is seeing is the index.html page that's present by default in most hosting accounts. If the hosting provider's one-click install leaves that file in place after installing C5, then that's the page that will appear if you go to "mydomain.com/" - which is precisely where you're redirected upon log-in. If you explicitly specify "mydomain.com/index.php" then you will see the C5 home page.

Just a guess, but the empirical evidence seems to support it.

Agree with Shotster.

Login via FTP (or your File Manager through Control Panel) to your root folder, and delete index.html file.

Many hosts put a default and basic file in there for new sites, which tells people browsing your site before it's done that it's under construction.

Check with you host to confirm.

Shotster and LucasAnderson - thank you! I was having the same problem as scotmaupin and I followed your advice and it worked.

I went to File Manager through the Control Panel in my iPage account, searched for index.html within the root folder, deleted it, then went to login to edit my site again and it finally worked.

Thank you thank you!

Hello all.

first off, thank you so much for all the help. the issue has been solved. im not sure of the EXACT cause, but ultimately the short circuit was happening on the ipage side, and they were able to fix it without me having to do anything on my side or with c5. i think it had to do with pointing the domain to the right folder (which, by extension, would be where it would locate the index.php that i think some people identified was a missing link in the chain.)

anyway, all is good. it works, i have multiple installs for different sites on the same host, so im super happy and ready to start playing/building with c5. im sure i will run into more hiccups at some point at which time i will know exactly how awesome you guys are on the forums with helping out those who dont know what we are doing.

thanks again,
