Update from 5.5.2.1 problems

I am on 5.5.2.1 running on a windows WAMP server. C5 can't find any available updates, and when I go through the manual update process, extracting the concrete5.6.0.2 file to the www/updates folder. C5 still can't find any available updates.

I do have a custom theme (slightly modified chameleon) and some other custom work done. I do not know if they are going to break if I upgrade - I took a snapshot of the server prior to starting so if it does break, I'll be able to roll back easily.

Doing the manual process (method 1) does nothing - no updates detected
Doing the manual process (method 2) results in the site having major errors and I'm unable to reach the upgrade script page.

Tried manually dumping new C5 folder on top of old?

Yes - as I stated, method 1 doesn't work (doesn't detect updates) and method 2 completely breaks the server

If by dumping new C5 install over top of old server, when I do that the server completely fails to work.

Okay, just tried this and it worked for me (5.2.1.1).

Put the 5.6.0.2 folder in the updates folder.

Went to dashboard and chose update.

Done and dusted in about 24.65 seconds.

I just realized what my problem was, after building a new server and staging it so I could play with the upgrade.

The manual upgrade instructions imply that the entire download for concrete 5.6.0.2 folder needs to be in the update folder, but really it's just the core concrete folder from the entire installation file.

Once I got that, it was a snap.

Thanks
