Updating from 5.4.2.2 to 5.5.2.1

Permalink
I'm trying to update an older C5 site to the latest version. I've been able to update from 5.2.1. to 5.4.2.2, but when I go to my updates page it says the next version to update to is 5.5.2.1, but when I try to download the update, I eventually got a white page after a while and nothing is in the updates folder.

Do I have to update to 5.5.2.1 first before then proceeding to the latest version, and if so, where do I get a copy of it?

Or, if I can skip it and go straight to 5.6.1.2, do I just need to upload it to the /updates/ folder and then C5 will pick it up and display it in the CP?

You might want to update to 5.5.0 first.

Thanks I did that and was able to updated successfully to 5.5.0 and then on to 5.5.2.1

I then checked out the update page from within the control panel and it said 5.6.1.2 was the next one to update to. So I downloaded the update from within the CP and this time it downloaded OK but when I try to run the update I got:

Call to undefined method AddBlockBlockTypePermissionAccess::isPermissionKeyInUse()

I read in another thread to try and update to 5.6.0 first so I downloaded it and uploaded it via FTP but when I view the updates page it says I'm running 5.5.2.1 and that no updates are available.

I read in another thread that I could go to /index.php/tools/required/upgrade and upgrade from there but even though I've got a 5.6.0 folder in /updates/ it only offers to update to 5.6.1.2 and when I do that, I get the same error as I've listed above.

If I try to remove the 5.6.1.2 folder from /updates/ I get errors relating to that update, e.g.:

Warning: require(updates/concrete5.6.1.2_updater/concrete/dispatcher.php)

which brings the whole site and control panel down. So at the moment I don't seem to be able to update past 5.5.2.1. Anyone have an idea what my next step should be?

Just a general suggestion (and I know depending on your web server you may not be able to do this) but I've hit problems in the past using the update installer from within the dashboard. Because of this, I've done every update since manually, and that seems to have solved all the random issues that cropped up for me. (I just recently did a jump from 5.4.x to 5.6.x on a heavily used, complex website using the manual method two weeks ago without major issue)

Just don't forget to take a backup of the database and the code at each update point just to be safe...

I believe you need to update to 5.6.0 first. I remember having to do that.

More specifically, I went from 5.4.0.5 to 5.5.2.1 to 5.6.1.2 manually without issue (well jus one -- I had to update page and block permissions again, but that was a minor fix)
