Updating to 8.2.1 broke most links to images
Permalink
Hello, Upgraded to 8.2.1 today and a lot of images on the site are no longer there. See attached screenshot. As you can see, where the images used to be there is now text. Oddly, some of the images are still showing while most are not. Is anyone else experiencing this issue, and or can someone help me out?
I believe I was at 8.0 or 8.2.0 before upgrading.
Thank you,
Scott

Have you tried clearing the cache and checking the box to include thumbnails?
Yes, that was the first thing I did.
The odd thing is that if I edit the block with the image, the image shows up in the editor. When I hit save and the block loads, the image is not there. Just the image name.
Left-field suggestion: try refreshing the page a few times.
Questionable rationale: the devs have been mucking around with alternative strategies for creating and caching image thumbnails. Some combination of circumstances allows pages to load before the thumbnails have been generated.
Obviously refreshing the page isn't a good long-term solution, but if it works, it would indicate what the problem is. I think there's an alternative thumbnail generation strategy setting somewhere that would then be worth looking for.

Thank you. Tired multiple refreshes from multiple machines and networks without luck.
Here is an example of how the image shows in the editor.

My next uninformed guess: are all of the images uploaded as JPGs? Recent changes have caused c5 to get confused with PNGs and SVGs (and possibly anything non-JPG).
Hi webpros,
Just to clarify, only some blocks are affected, not all?
Are the affected blocks added to the page using the Content block?
In the screen recording, there are green arrow icons in the Content block editing field. Was that added by the screen recording software?
Are you using a custom template for the Content block?
For the yellow "VEGA" logo, when you are not editing the Content block, what is its img src value?

Hello MrKDilkington,

Yes.

Added by browser app, Grammarly.
Are you using a custom template for the Content block?
Not that I am aware of.
For the yellow "VEGA" logo, when you are not editing the Content block, what is its img src value?
<img src="/application/files/thumbnails/small/8214/8460/7393/vega_logo_280x66.jpg" alt="vega_logo_280x66.jpg">

@webpros
Did you check to see if that image path exists and there is a file there?
Have you tried "rescanning" the file?
- go to the file manager
- right click on the file
- click "Properties"
- click the "Rescan" button
After rescanning the image, does it display correctly?
If you activate the default Elemental theme, do the images display correctly?

Image path exists...
Your idea to rescan the images seems to fix the issue for that image. Now the question is there a way to rescan all images, or do I need to do them one by one.
Thanks for your help with this. Would you have an idea why this happened? We've been using Concrete5 for 5 plus years without any issues.
Take care.

There were some recent changes to thumbnail generation since 8.1, which may be related, I am not sure.
There is a Rescan All Files add-on by katz515 that might be useful.
https://www.concrete5.org/marketplace/addons/rescan-all-files...
Before using this add-on, take a full backup (files and database) first.
