Upgraded from 5.4.1 to 5.5.0
Permalink
I recently logged into one of my clients sites to see that there was an update available to 5.5.1, I had previously updated another site just the day before first to 5.4.2 and then to 5.5.1 and had no issues.
However this site is now useless from the dashboard side of things. I see options in the old dashboard layout that are for 5.5.1 and i am unable to reach most of the options from the dashboard as i get page cannot be found.
Any help would be greatly appreciated i try to go back to an older version of the dbase but i get an error "#1153 - Got a packet bigger than 'max_allowed_packet' byte"

i think you must dumb your sql partially, use sql line by line not import, or ask your hosting company to increase size of dump import sql. how bigger of your sql file? and how long the site has been live? thanks for the info.
Site has been alive for about 7 months, but wasn't heavily used. Database size is 6.77 MB. It stops on site stats...
Site stats is a table that gets bloated. I encountered a similar problem restoring a site from backup a few months ago. My solution was to manually edit the SQL backup file to remove the site stats table from it. Then restoring from the backup was considerably more compact, I just end up with a site with no stats history (which didn't bother me as I now leave stats turned off to avoid bloat)
On upgrading to 5.5.1, my number 1 issue is a chicken and egg problem upgrading themes (The old version of the theme breaks the 5.5.1 toolbar and dashboard, but the new version can't be installed until I have 5.5.1 running). The solution here is to change the site theme to plain yogurt before making the upgrade, then upgrade the theme, then change it back to the now upgraded theme.
(And always test it all on an offline copy first)

I have been able to get the site to where it appears to work, but now i cannot add pages...
I have seen many instances of this happening in the forum but no solution as yet...
Unable to select page type

I am having the exact same problem on a site and I am not that familiar with SQL. Can you tell me how I can manipulate the data to remove the stat data and hopefully this will be the trick to get the site back up. I have been fighting this all day and this is the closest fix that I see working. Any help is greatly appreciated.
BTW - it is for a dive school sitehttp://www.diventures.net
