Upgraded to 5.4 now access denied
Permalink
I upgraded from 5.3.3.1 to 5.4 onhttp://www.lochee.com and now when I try to add a block I get "access denied"
I've never used advanced permissions, and I changed nothing. All I done was upgrade. It was working fine before the upgrade.
Thanks for all the replies and the wonderful support!!
I've waited hours now for a reply to a support issue on a live site. Looks like I'll be moving on to a more user friendly CMS that does not extort $$$$ for basic addons.

Which add-ons are you talking about? Just curious
do you mean concrete5 addons?
Well they are all basically commercial addons.

Yeah so about half the add-ons in our marketplace are free, half aren't. it's hardly extortion, its actually called business. We can't help you if we're all broke and homeless.
Moreover, you're not using the support for any of the commercial ones, you're looking for free support on the free core, and you're giving the community beef for not having a reply within 5 hours?
Dude. I gotta tell ya, there's a lot of commercial systems where you're not gonna get that level of support. I get that its frustrating to have errors after an upgrade, but I think you're being a little unreasonable here..
unless this is in fact an april fools joke in which case AWWW you got me jereme! ;)

oh it better NOT be...lol
You should try Joomla. I hear it's a great CMS.
..you'r kidding right..? :)
Are you asking me?
I'm not sure. The last time I logged in here I was heavily under the influence of alcohol, and possibly some herbal remedies ;)
Let me just check what else I have posted and I'll get back to you. Wouldn't be the first time I've been banned from a site for voicing my opinions whilst indulging in recreational activities ;)

Tam, this may or may not help you....but..
I just experienced a similar "access denied" error after upgrading one of our clients. Then I cleared my browser cache, issue gone.
best wishes.

Have you tried adding a new user to see if they have access rights? Are you logged in as the admin user?
You might also try reinstalling. Your site looks small enough that it wouldn't be too hard to add your content again.
You wouldn't need to upload everything again, either. Here's the steps:
- Delete all the tables in the database you're using
- Delete /config/site.php
- Visit your site again, and do the install
I'm sure that your site will work with a fresh install. I've never had the problem you're explaining here, so I'm sure you should be good to go with a fresh install. Otherwise there might be something going on with your database, but I think this might be an easier place to start

Also try clearing your cache, disabling cache - log out - log back in.
I believe it is a cache issue, I upgrade a 3.3.1 to 4 yesterday and had the same problem. after just blowing out the db and start from clean db worked fine, good thing it was a small site :), but then i realized i left the cache on when I did the upgrade. I always have problems with 5.4 and the cache being used with 5.4. but Iam using windows 2003, so iam kinda stuck with no using the cache turned on.
I also got problems after upgrading to 5.4, but only with one particularly site. 8 of the sites i've upgraded are fine, one can't find the theme's css anymore.
A look into the page's source code, shows that the css relation isn't like it should be:
..disabling the cache seems to "solve" the problem.. but this can't be the solution
..curious is, that also the site with disabled cache shows this "/index.php/tools/css/.." in the path to the css.. but this site is displayed correctly..

I just upgraded from 5.3.3.1 to 5.4 and was getting access denied when clicking on an "Add to Content" area, but I could edit a block that had been previously created. I had caching off before the upgrade, but cleared the cache anyway - this did not help. I tried creating a new user and group with admin permissions, but got the same access denied.
I then cleared the firefox browser cache and things went back to normal. Maybe it would be helpful to put some more info onto the access denied message to steer us to the right direction of resolving the problem...
Thanks.
