Upgrading woes.. to 5.4.05
Permalink
I was on 5.3.3.1 and tried to upgrade to 5.4.0.5 directly.. When I logged on the Dashboard was completely blank. I could see the web pages, but nothing on the dashboard. I first tried to go back up uploading the saved concrete directory and while it would not let me go back to an earlier version, I could see the dashboard (but not the sitemap.. and a few other issue). I went back and re-loaded the entire site (except database) from backup and it is still doing the same thing (but it does think it is on 5.3.3.1 again). Any suggestions to get out of this mess I am in?
If you've rolled the files back to 5.3.3.1 you should reinstall the database backup from that version as well. Performing the upgrade to 5.4.0.5 changed stuff in the database, so the 5.3.3.1 files are confused.
yea, thats the one piece I did not backup
well, I restored the files to before the upgrade, then uploaded 5.4.0.5 and re-ran it.
Still have no Dashboard..
get the concrete5 dashboard icon at the top left and Return to Website icon followed by:

I've occasionally experienced some weird issues after upgrading, and they usually came down to browser cache. Clearing it or using a different browser gave me different results
It's an obvious point but sometimes overlooked!
The other thing that may be causing you grief is some issues surrounding zend cache performance. Check out Andrew's blog here:http://andrewembler.com/web/improving-the-performance-of-zend-cache...

Tried a different browser and no luck..
Also added the line to the site.php.. and no change..
Any other ideas?
I did put the site into Maintenance mode prior to the upgrade.. but it is still coming up..
Looks like everything works except the ability to use the dashboard..

Found the problem, posting it in case anyone else has a similar issue.
I backup the upgraded database and then created a new test site. I then imported/restored the database into the new test site.. and tried it and it seemed to be OK (other than missing some graphics that I had not uploaded.
Then I started uploading the directories from the live site. found that after I uplioaded the templates folder (from the root) it had the same behaviour as the live site (no dashboard). I deleted the templates from the live site and suddenly I could get to the dashboard again. all I had to do was to delete the template that I was not using and all seems to be OK.
a bit relieved as I have upgraded several sites to 5.4.05 and have not had any issues till this one. Thanks for all those that commented and tried to help.
