Video Player Problems

I can't for the life of me figure out how to get the videos that I've uploaded to my host server to display and play on Concrete 5. Where do I put in the code? I'm using quicktime movie files and I'm not linking them from YouTube or Vimeo. They will be hosted by the company who is hosting my website. Please help! This is insanely frustrating not to be able to speak with anyone on Concrete 5's end!

I think the easiest way to do this would be this.

1 upload .mov file to /files/incoming
2 while logged into site browse to page you want the video on
3 edit mode, choose new block, then pick video player from the list
4 from the file manager popup choose upload multiple
5 click the add incoming tab and select your videos
6 then once they are added the the file manager choose the video

I think that's all there is to it.

Hi I have the same problem.I understand steps 2-6 but can't seem do find how to complete step 1 upload .mov file to /files/incoming

you would need to use a ftp program to upload the files to the incoming folder,

root>files>incoming - you may need to create the incoming folder

I find that it is often better to convert those mov files into flv's helps save on your bandwidth then too.

If its just FTP your after, I like File Zilla,
http://filezilla-project.org/ an open source FTP client,

If you would like a little more then just FTP WinScp is also very good
http://winscp.net/ has a built in editor, and ability to launch putty

If your just going to be putting uploading/downloading files then I would recommend Filezilla

My apologies for being so dense about all of this. This first answer seemed indeed to be the one I needed (although if it wasn't for the help of the Customer Service guy at my hosting site who read this forum thread I wouldn't have been able to figure this out). The missing link here for me was knowing where to properly store my videos on their server that would link to the appropriate tab in step 5. Again - 107 Studio as well as everyone else here who chimmed in, your input was much appreciated!

Thanks for the replies everyone. Still scratching my head though as to how this works.

My video file are stored via FETCH.

I followed the instructions and advice given here but still no love.

Anyone?

If you are having trouble with step one, try this.

Put the movie file somewhere on your computer where you know where it is. Then In C5 in the dashboard, go to the file manager and click the Browse button at the top, then navigate to where the movie file is and click the upload button, that will get it on to the web server.

You can then choose the file from the file manager list.

I don't think this solution will work as the file is greater than 50 MB and C5 can't handle that size of a file. I have stored the file via my hosting site and want to have it link to C5 from there. So my problem remains unsolved. It's a bit frustrating to be told that Word Press is easier than C5 after I was told that C5 was very simple. I've already paid for C5 and feel I should be able to have access to someone via the telephone regarding technical issues. Not sure that I can recommend C5 at this point with all this digging around...

I don't think the built in video block is going to work if you're hosting these quicktime movies on a 3rd party server. It's going to want the file to exist in the file manager for it to work. You might be able to get some embed code generated for your video on that other server and then just stick it in with the HTML block, but really getting the video into the file manager would be a better call.

concrete5 can handle files of any size, its a PHP setting that limits your uploads to 50mb. You should ask your webhost to configure php to allow larger file uploads.

https://www.concrete5.org/community/forums/customizing_c5/increase-u...

Alternatively, you can upload the file using FTP to your incoming file directory and import it to the file manager that way. I believe there are instructions above on that.

I appreciate your frustration and hope you get this resolved. I would certainly offer phone support if we could afford to, but today we do not. Incidentally, neither does wordpress... or google... just sayin'

There are more support options here:
http://www.concrete5.org/services/support-options/...

I don't think this is something we can really help with however, the fact of the matter is you need to get your current webhost to bump up file upload limits so you can use concrete5 as it was intended.

My host site has set me up with unlimited FTP. Uploaded the file into the directory. Still nothing.

You've uploaded the file into the incoming directory?
Did you then goto the File Manger > Advanced and import from incoming directory?

When you say "nothing" can you elaborate a bit more?

best wishes

I would still suggest converting you mov file into a FLV

If you have flash this has a built in flash encoder you could also use
Super
http://www.erightsoft.net/SUPER.html...

Or a short tutorial on FLV encoder and link to the shareware
http://www.sharewareguide.net/article/Tip/flv-encoder:-how-to-conve...

Your Video will be reduced from 50Mb to about 6mb

I did this for this site
http://presw.com/

and the videos load much faster being a lower file size, plus a good 99% of browsers have flash player

Hi 107studio,

I have tried this method. The last time I tried the file was only 6.28mb and I still got the following message.
"Uploaded file is too large. The current value of upload_max_filesize is 2M"
That's not much of a video is it?

ask your host to increase the max upload size, its set at 2mb

Thank you Mnkras
That did the trick I mailed my host and he fixed it in minutes.

Hello,

I have uploaded a video here

http://www.marinoskoutsomichalis.com/index.php?cID=124...

the problem is that I can see no play/stop buttons and instead a window appears saying I have to install additional quicktime content to see this video and redirects me here

http://www.apple.com/quicktime/resources/components.html?os=OSX&...

the video is a simple mp4 - is there any chance I have done sth wrong ?? any ideas on what extension should I download ?

thx

That is normal for a quicktime video. It requires you to download the quicktime software from apple to work. quicktime movies are not the best type of video in my opinion for that reason.

I would recommend either using youtube or convert the file to an .avi
Marinosk replied on at Permalink Reply
I replaced it with an avi but I get the same problem.. I feel that this way it is a bit intimidating for visitors..

isn' t there some kind of video that would work out of the box ??

else what software do I need to download, there are plenty on that site ??

Only visitors that do not have quicktime installed would see this,

I still recommend using flv videos that way it runs on flash, and 99% of browsers now support flash.

Of course as the post couple up suggest you could also convert and upload as an avi file not a mp4 which would get rid of the need for quicktime

There is no video that works 100% out of the box as they all require decoders to work.

The popular ones are/where avi/mp4 today alot of videos are now either flv, the use of html5 video is also on the rise but this would not work for users in older browsers, this supports multiple formats but there is no set default as of yet,

H.264/MPEG-4 AVC is a populer choice but restricted by having to pay licence fee.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H.264/MPEG-4_AVC...

Google has released an open source format VP8
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VP8...

Super C is a good free converter, you could also just upload to youtube and use there embed option.

but I tried with both mp4 and avi and I still get this message..

I am on mac - how is it possible that I cannot see these videos ?? I obviously have quicktime installed - actually I used quicktime to create the videos in the first place..

I tested this with chrome and safari

it does not make sense to me to have to download some third party extension to quicktime just to see a normal mp4..
