Where do I unzip concrete5 on server?

Hello,

I just uploaded the concrete5 zip to the /public_html folder and now need to unzip the files.

Could someone please explain what specific /directory I should unzip it into because I apparently don't understand.

I would like the site to show as mydomain.com/index.php

Do I choose to unzip in:
/
/public_html
/www

etc.. Any help would be truly appreciated!

EDIT: the reason I am confused is because after extracting the .zip file into /public_html I see:
/public_html/concrete5.6.1.2/concrete

Where in my old webserver I am trying to move from I see:

/public_html/concrete

Essentailly all the directories under /concrete5.6.1.2 are directly under /public_html, as if they were moved out of the /concrete5.6.1.2 directory (which I do not see).

Did I mess something up on the old server? and how do I make it right on this new server when transferring this site??

Thank you,
-concreteart

you want to upload the contents of the .zip to /public_html if you want to install it directly to the root of your site.

Ok, so I should actually unzip the file on my computer , then select all the directories within the unzipped folder ( /concrete5.6.1.2) and then ftp and upload all the directories into /public_html ?

Thanks!

That works fine (frequenty install that way myself). If you have cpanel for your hosting, it can be uploaded zipped and opened to the correct folder.

The notes in Documentation are pretty helpful. See them at

As enlil noted: The Public folder should be the preferred location.

Yes I followed those specific instructions, however it leaves me with:

/public_html/concrete5.6.1.2/

and maybe that is correct, but on my old webserver all of the directories within the /concrete5.6.1.2 directory are actually directly in /public_html, as if the /concrete5.6.1.2 just isn't there in the middle if you will.

So my questions are:

1) Should I just extract the .zip in /public_html so then I'll see: /public_html/concrete5.6.1.2?

2) If Yes to above, I must have screwed up my installation on the other server I am moving from, and do I need to worry about that when moving files on this transfer?

Thank you for your patience!!

you want all the files and folders within the .zip to be directly under /public_html

So, do I want it all within the /concrete5.6.1.2

/public_html/concrete5.6.1.2/concrete
/public_html/conrete5.6.1.2/config
/public_html/concrete5.6.1.2/packages
/public_html/concrete5.6.1.2/controllers

OR

/public_html/concrete
/public_html/config
/public_html/packages
/public_html/controllers
etc.

The contents of your Concrete folder (your second option)

Thank you Adreco! I will go ahead and just unzip the .zip on my desktop, and then select all the directories WITHIN the new concrete5.6.1.2 and ftp/upload all of them to the public_html directory. THANK YOU! :)
