Yet another "Page not found" thread.

Hi guys,

I am new to webpage making, to CMS's in general, and to this forum. So, excuse me if I don't understand immediately your replies (if any).

My problem is the following. I tried C5 by installing it at home and everything worked perfect. I liked it a lot; very easy to use. However, once I installed C5 on the live server, by copying the downloadable files provided in "concrete.org" to my assigned web space (some public_html folder at an institutional server), I get the famous "Page not found" if accessing "http://www.mysite.com" directly. The page loads properly after refreshing the page a couple of times. Also, the page loads properly every time I access the site with "http://www.mysite.com/index.php/", and all the subfolders, such as "http://www.mysite.com/index.php/about/", load OK too.

Any hints? I tried the answers of the following thread:

http://www.concrete5.org/community/forums/installation/andquotpage_...

But they did not work for me.

Cheers,

Have you tried your System and Maintenance and running the jobs there listed?
I generally always install non tab scheduler to handle the cron jobs.

I just tried now, and it did not help. BTW, what is a "cron job"?

do you have pretty urls enabled?
rimen05 replied on at Permalink Reply
I tried Pretty URLs enabled and disabled, and neither worked. I tried with and without .htaccess file with the code generated by C5 when enabling Pretty URLs, and neither worked.

What do you mean? You want the URL of the site?http://www.eudim.uta.cl

Thanks for helping.

I have a sneaking suspicion it might have to do with the cache...
rimen05 replied on at Permalink Reply
SO, I have tried with cache disabled and enabled. Now I tried with different options of cache (once enabled), and it seems not to influence the issue.

It still doesn't work for me. Mmm.

Works for me except this link:http://www.eudim.uta.cl/
It gives me a 404. Clicking back to home takes me to the home page.

Any other hints guys? I cannot leave the page half-operative.

Hi, Dont know if you have since found the problem and resolved it, but both links in this thread work fine for me, both go to your site instantly.

Hi, I haven't changed anything since last attempt, and it didn't work at that time. Weird enough, it is also working for me. Perhaps the admin of the live server did something, don't know. I am very curious.

Is your domain name pretty new? if it is, it might be that it hadnt propagated fully, which would give you some patchy 404's.
rimen05 replied on at Permalink Reply
Yes, it is pretty new. However, the shown "page not found" was generated by C5 (with the little hand symbol in the top-left corner). So, I believe URL is propagated. Isn't right?

Sorry didnt realise it was a C5 404, yes your quite right if it was shown by C5 then it was propagated ok. i guess the main thing is its working now, but I know what you mean its nice to know whats going on when things arnt behaving.
rimen05 replied on at Permalink Reply
Exactly. It would be very nice to know what's going on.
