Building a site with multiple sub sites for a school division
Permalink
We are a school division of about 10,000 students across 28 sites. We currently use Concrete 5 for our main central office site but would like to expand across all school sites with a consistent template. We would also like to be able to link the sites by items such as notices, news, bus closures, emergency notifications, etc. as well as integrate twitter and other social media links. Although our we have some experience with Concrete 5 it is simply to host a single web page right now. Is this possible with Concrete 5, are there examples out there that show its possibilities?

The simplest solution is to add a branch for each school off your existing Main site. That way all the shared content is all on the same site already and can easily be pulled into each schools site. Is there a reason why maintaining 28 individual sites is required?
Individual sites are not required, currently each school does their own thing, hosts their own content and we have simple Wordpress sites, Google sites and Go Daddy sites as an example. Looking for the easiest way to pull them all in together and share the content, templates, etc.
If they all have separate domain names, you should look at one of the
domain mapper add ons, you can install them all on a single C5
installation and they can share data from the single db.

Good point pvernaglia. The permissions model in concrete5 can make sure that each school's 'branch' is only accessible to members of that school but all schools will be available to the main site admins.
If you're going to go that way, use this one:

IMO, it's much nicer than the other one. The big thing for me was the full URL mapping. This one has a custom autonav block so that once you land on the mapped node, it stays relative to that node. The other one has the main url when you land, but then you end up withwww.www.site.com/domains/www.othersite.com/news/article...
But either are a really good solution to your problem. Much simpler and better than doing multiple sites.

Thank you for all your input.
Hello from Edmonton!
Just a quick question - what is the domain structure for the sites like? Is each school on a sub domain or are they all on their own domain name for access?
I'd be happy to help figure out what you need to do and how to implement it. Shoot me a PM with contact details if you'd like me to give you a call.
Thanks,
Brian
