If the home page is the first page in your sites hierarchy (the index page) you should just remove the url slug.

Try setting the canonical url settings to

in System & Settings > SEO & Statistics > URLs and Redirection and tick the box for Only render at canonical URLs.
NOTE https is converted to http by the forum software for some obscure reason.

In the dashboard->sitewide settings->enable pretty url's.
You will get a code, add that to your .htaccess file and then it should work.
