Looking for freelance work beginning in July

I'm a c5 developer with about 4 years worth of experience. There are very few aspects of concrete5 that I don't understand, and understand well. Most of my experience is working as a sub-contractor to other shops and designers. They send me PSDs or specs/wireframes for an application, and I make it work.

Some of my skills:

/********************************************
* Advanced application development
*********************************************/

I've developed many different things for the concrete5 platform. I am completely fluent in using the package system and integrating with the core API so that upgrading is far less likely to break the system, and even if it does, it can be quickly fixed. I've created dashboard page managers of almost every kind. Many, many custom blocks. Ajax search interfaces, google map integration, etc. If you can dream it up, and properly explain what you want, I can probably make it.

I'm also fully competent at integrating with the core styles. So when you are editing blocks, or visiting your dashboard page, it's as seamless as if it was built directly into the core. Often times, even better - many of the core blocks are still built with markup from pre-5.5, they don't 'match' at all.

Because I've been working with concrete5 since shortly after it was released open source, I also know quite a bit about what's changed in all the different versions. So if you have applications built by other developers for older versions, I can help you bring it up to date to use with the latest and greatest.

The only areas I don't really do much work are with ecommerce applications. I can, but I really don't like the existing solution from the core team.

/********************************************
* HTML5 Responsive Themes
*********************************************/

My perfectionist/OCD background shows in the themes that I create. With a background originally in prepress (specifically Variable Data Print) I'm quite familiar with using most mainstream software to slice things out so that it realizes the intended design pixel perfect. I'm very experienced at making sure that the css does not eat into the core user interface, and that there are no conflicts in edit mode. Plus I have a lot of tricks for keeping your editing experience simple and easy.

I tend to work without much for a framework or a grid system, though if you have one that you would like to use, I usually can. I don't like to use them in responsive design because many actually hinder rather than help the design. They encourage you to think in terms of device pixels, and not in making the design simply flex where it actually breaks.

I don't really do low-end theme work though. Typically they are 5-12 different page types, maybe 10-20 different block templates, a few custom blocks, custom attributes for the page types included in the theme package so that re-installing or re-use work without needing to manually add everything.

/********************************************
* Process and workflow streamlining
*********************************************/

A lot of my background before moving to web development was in process automation for web-to-print applications, and in defining how files should be managed/named/shared for large design and print firms. This knowledge gets applied to every site and app that I design, re-use and streamlining are always foremost in my mind.

If you have a shop and are looking to bump up your speed and efficiency, while reducing errors and eliminating gaps in the knowledge between your individual developers, I'd love to take a look at the type of work and resources that you have available and help you figure out the best way to do things.

Many places that I've seen using concrete5 have been doing turnkey systems where the theme is changed mostly by CSS, and where a lot of content is pre-set. They are all within a certain industry, or sometimes as franchise locations within a particular industry. Setting up the workflow to allow you to quickly skin 100s of sites in an environment like this is something I'm quite adept at.

/********************************************
* What I'm Looking For
*********************************************/

* Challenging or interesting one off custom themes (IE not for marketplace)
* Blocks that you need for a site
* Custom page management interfaces
* Upgrades and patches to older systems with complicated code from earlier developers
* Scaffolding / Process Analysis
* Tutorials and Training
* Things that just sound fun

I'm especially interested in working with people in the non-profit world that are working to turn the world into a better place.

/********************************************
* The Nitty Gritty
*********************************************/

When developing applications, I like to have the option to retain the right to re-use and release the code developed in other places. This does not apply to theme creation / slicing. But if you want a calendar or a blog or some other thing and also want to have the rights to resell the code to people outside of our initial agreement, there will be an extra charge for those rights.

I'm also not the cheapest developer out there. If you are looking for someone to spend an hour or two on a small tweak, I'm probably not your best choice. But if you are looking for high quality, stable code with exceptional support, please let me know.

Please contact me via PM or at concrete5guru@gmail.com and I can provide you with samples of work that I've done.
