Need $0 eCommerce checkout option
Permalink
Hi,
I'm working on a project for a client where they need an ecommerce solution that'll be used by different departments in their company. It would really be used as a tool to request items from the marketing department and would allow them to track inventory.
My thought was to use the C5 eCommerce block but set all products to $0. Would that work? Would they still have to enter their credit card info or could they just bypass all of that? I guess what I need is something like how C5 handles purchasing a free block in the Marketplace.
I posted this question in the eCommerce questions and discussion page and the response I got was to maybe alter the checkout controller to get rid of the existing checkout and replace it with a simpler one that doesn't require purchasing.
My other thought was that if the eCommerce block won't work for this, are there other blocks or possibly ways of manipulating other blocks to achieve what I'm wanting. Could it maybe be as simple as setting up some kind of form that get's submitted and then updates the inventory based on the number of items they requested?
Can anyone provide any possible solutions for this and let me know what you'd charge to create it?
Thanks.

I might be able to get a copy even though C5 won't allow me a temporary copy. I have a site I built a while ago that has an older version of the eCommerce block.
If I release it from that project I guess I could download a recent version of that block. Would doing that cause the eCommerce block to stop working on that site? I just want to make sure disconnecting it doesn't mess anything up.
If that works, and I can get you a recent version of the block, will you be able to look into it and see if what we want to do will work?
Please let me know what you think about disconnecting the block and then also if you'll be able to look into the issue if we can get you the block.
Thanks.

Actually you don't need to release it from your project, just go in the package folder of your site, zip the folder containing the add-on and send it to me by pm. Once I'm done with it I'll just delete it on my side as I don't have a license to use it anyway. But don't post it publicly as it is a paid add-on, send it by pm.
Just to make sure I understand what you want, you need to be able to use the add-on stock management function by making the users go through the checkout process without having to do anything payment related. Add products to the cart, checkout without payment or credit card involved, stocks are updated.
Correct?

Yes that is correct - that is what I'll need you to do.
Does it matter that the version of the block I have is over a year old? That's why I was thinking about disconnecting it maybe.

well you would have to check whether the addon was updated or not whithin a year. If not then no problem.
If it was updated then it's really up to you. If you're not experiencing issues and the updates doesn't bring anything you want then it's not necessary.
Of course if the update is free then just go ahead, nothing to loose there.

I'd be interested in helping with that but first I suggest to ask the C5 people if they would allow you to buy the ecommerce addon on a trial basis and give you a refund if it doesn't suit your need. My reasoning is that it would probably be easier and cheaper to start from there rather than from scratch.
If that's not going to work we can discuss to come up with another solution based on your specific needs.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
