It may be that I've under-priced. Or, maybe I've not properly described the position. From my experience this is a normal range for this kind of work, but I'm always willing to be corrected and I appreciate that you've taken the time to comment on this.

I'm in Canada so I have been excluded by your job specs but I think the issue is that most 'experts in this community' would be foregoing work at higher rates to try to 'squeeze in' project management work at lower rates. Remote project management is not the most efficient way to earn a living and it's very difficult to account for all the hours that one would has to put in to keep everyone happy and projects moving. Any 'expert' in this community likely has existing clients to service. From my experience, taking on an 'unknown' level of commitment with a firm like yours jeopardizes my ability to properly service all my clients including your clients. In the past, I have 'cleared my calendar' for many optimistic firms only to find out that they were overly optimistic and the available work falls far short of their predictions. I am no longer eager to clear my calendar.

Well-stated, thank you. I'm certainly appreciative of your perspective on this and I can fully understand why in your situation this is not a good fit.

One clarification: Canadian contractors are certainly welcome to bid. In fact, I'm in Toronto and we have contractors in ON, AB and BC. The location requirements are North America, but I can see how Elance's declaration about US contractors needing a W9 can contribute to the misunderstanding.

I'm certainly not looking for an expert C5 developer to handle clients and manage calendars for $20/hr. We've hired a number of C5 devs and are happy to pay what they are worth. This position requires no dev knowledge, but would benefit from some experience as a C5 user - familiarity with the use of blocks, areas, stacks, etc. I realize that I should have much better qualified my use of the word "expertise" in the initial hastily-written post.

Having said all of that, there are people who make their living doing an excellent job as remote PMs, and that's what we're looking for. Often they are only interested or available for part-time positions.

So, if you (in general) are a super-awesome C5 code Ninja/Guru/Savant/Wizard then this is not for you. If you are a good communicator with some experience using C5 and you want to pick up some extra work without clearing your whole schedule then this might be right up your alley :)

A good manager, project or otherwise, can competently work remotely and/or manage remote teams.

And that's why I said "best of luck". The rate* is really low to hire a good PM, with decent communication skills (presumably in English), some experience with SEO and c5. In my experience, it's definitely too low for a "lynch-pin". You get what you pay for, and I speak from the experience of hiring remote people in the $15 range.

And the "not for everybody" argument only goes so far. If I want to hire a senior developr for $5 an hour, I'll be waiting a pretty long time for the candidate that that offer isn't unappealing to.

* $20 is the high end, so let's say the median of $15, and, in the US (probably CA and others), you have to pay self-employment taxes, so close to $11 -- without healthcare, sick/vacation pay, etc. Starbucks isn't looking so bad.

Dude. I would never hire a remote PM to manage what we do.
