uploaded images can not be displayed

Hi, this is my first website build, and finding it pretty straight forward except like others when i upload pictures into file manager i just get that stupid jpeg symbol or red cross. This is also the case when you upload it onto your webpage. Ive changed the permission to 777 in filezilla but this didnt work. is this a problem for concrete or my hosting company? ive spent $45 on a theme and if i cant uploads pictures im stuffed!

Sorry that should have said my web page not "yours". Basically when in file manager you can't the picture just that stmbol, and when I upload that picture to my web page just tha same little icon is shown. I'm sure theres a permission or setting problem somewhere, but have no idea how to find it! My web host is saying its a problem with concrete and as its third party are not interested! Thanks for your help.
