Installing a new theme

My host installed Concrete5 for us but it is version 5.6.2, so as it looks, we are using a real old version, anyway,

I found a theme I wanted to install, I found instructions on the web that said to unzip it and upload it into the base theme folder in concrete, which i did, but it is not showing up when i go to dashboard/Themes, just the default ones

Then I found something that said if it has the controller.php file that it in fact is a "Package" and needs to be placed in the "Package" folder, which I did as well, still nothing showed up..

any ideas on where to find a reliable tutorial to install a theme from the marketplace?

1) you need to make sure your theme is from the Legacy marketplace (new themes won't work with old sites)
2) you need to unzip it and place it in the root packages folder, the structure should be /packages/package_name/controller.php

Hello,

Thank you for the response.

I verified I am using a 5.6.2 compatible theme/package

I did as you stated and it is not showing up.

I downloaded the archive
Opened it and extracted it, took the extracted file structure and using filezilla, uploaded it into the concrete/Package folder with the continuing structure of
concrete/Package/black_accents/controller.php

I then opened up my dashboard, went to "Themes" and it had the default themes installed but no section for "Waiting to Install"

any idea as to what else it might be?

Also,

Is there a way to update Concrete5 to the newest version from this old version? Or would we need to do a clean install and redo everything?

First, don't ever put anything in the /concrete directory, always put things in the root directories.

As I said before your path should be /packages/black_accents/controller.php

Second, you have to install the package, so you will need to go to Extend Concrete5 in the Dashboard and Install the package, then you can go to Themes and Activate the theme.

Here is a link to the Legacy Documentation -https://legacy-documentation.concrete5.org/editors...

As for upgrading, you will not be able to upgrade from 5.6.x to 5.7 or 5.8. Those will require a new install and a redevelopment of your site, so I would strongly encourage you to install 5.8.2.1 right off the bat if you're just starting out, if this isn't possible you will only be able to upgrade to 5.6.3.5.

One more thing to note - any themes for 5.6 will not work for 5.7+ unless re-purchased and downloaded from the marketplace.

Thank you very much, you have been a wealth of information.

Much Appreciated.

I will look over the docs and see if I can get this installed, If I have any more questions i will update this and hopefully get more help.

ok my friend,

Once again I cannot seem to find the simplest of features in here.

You stated that once I add the file into the root "Package" folder, which I did, I need to go to my dashboard and install it..

I ask where? I go to dashboard, but I am not finding anything that gives me options to install.
Under Themes It gives the following options:
Themes
Page Types
Attributes
Single pages

I typed in "Install" in the search and it came back with "Add functionality" but I did not see it in there, am I missing something??

Is there an easy way to connect directly to the marketplace?
