Manually updating 5.6.3.3 w/o php

I've got a website currently on 5.6.3.3 that I hadn't been updating intentionally as I was running an old form add-on (proforms) that's no longer supported and was worrying about breaking. Lo and behold, my host updated PHP on all the servers and apparently I missed it...now we're a hard down.

From what I can tell 5.6.4 will work with PHP 7, but I can no longer load the site at all to go in through the dashboard to update. I've tried the instructions for the manual upgrade, but that doesn't seem to be working either. Suggestions (outside of "rebuild site"...ugh)?

you can modify your .htaccess file to revert to the old php version.

My understanding is the server itself is now locked to PHP7 or higher...granted I'm still trying to sort out exactly what happened, but as of this morning the whole site is a dead link. Found a missed email from a few weeks back that they were upgrading the server's pho and I needed to get my ducks in a row...

The usual process is to do a dashboard update from wherever you are to 5.6.3.4, then do a manual update to 5.6.4.

The manual update to 5.6.4 can be done with FTP and/or cPanel - no need for a working legacy php version.

I don't know if you can go from 5.6.3.3 straight into a manual update to 5.6.4.
