Problems downloading files

Good Day!
I first looked for a support link but this is the closest I got so hopeful you guys and gals can help.
I’ve been chasing this rabbit down a hole for a while but I give up and need your help.
I can’t pin down the cause of this problem(s) if it’s the server, my ftp program or the Concrete 5 web software.
I am having two issues.
The first, when I download a Stuffit Expander file (.lzp) that I uploaded, the file name extension is amended to either .txt or .html as in (.lzp.html) or (.mgr.txt.)
The second issue is, I started getting this error when clicking on the download links for the .lzp file.
“The requested URL /public_html/1999US-6-9-2018I.lzp was not found on this server.” But when I look at Cyberduck, that is the actual location. The work around has been to Save Target As....but I still have to go back and manually chnage the file name.
Additionally, a “404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.”
This is causing havoc withthe people who use my site.

MacOS: High Sierra 10.13.4
Browser: Safari 11.1
Mac Highway Server and FTP: moe.machighway.com;
ftps://brunetti@moe.machighway.com/public.html
Concrete5 Version: 5.6.3.5
FTP program: Cyberduck Version 6.6.1

Have you added the .lzp file extension to the 'dashboard/permissions & access/Allowed File Types' list

Yes. As I was working through this problem I added it recently. I tested it again just now with a k version of the .lzp and same thing. It downloads but adds .html to the file name.

It could be your browser adding the extra file extension, try reading this thread..

The page you posted has a download link on it that when clicked resolves to..

If you remove the 'public_html' from the browsers URL bar, it then downloads successfully.
I used 'Chrome Browser' and did not get any appended file extension..
Check your htaccess file for the public_html problem.

Thank you very much! The second solution seems to solve all the problems. I'm curious though why other files in this directory were not affected.
