Upgrade from 5.4.1.1 to 8.4.4 Possible?

Hi! New to concrete5 here, but years of web/CMS/linux experience. I'm trying to help someone with their site and it is on version 5.4.1.1, so my first question is, is it even possible to upgrade to 8.4.4? I see that it likely takes several steps to get from one version to the next, is there a tutorial anywhere or anyone kind enough to guide me through which versions we'll need to go through? Many thanks!

Unfortunately this is going to be a difficult (but not entirely impossible) task.

You would have to upgrade through the steps 5.4.2.2 -> 5.5.0 -> 5.6.0 -> 5.6.3 -> 5.6.3.5 and then you could use the Migration Tool (https://github.com/concrete5/addon_migration_tool_legacy) to export your 5.6 site and create a new theme/page types/attributes and import into the 8.4 site (https://github.com/concrete5/addon_migration_tool)

You can find more information on the Migration Tool in this YouTube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h9lzs2C88-s...

Thank you very much for that info, that's exactly what I needed.

One follow up question, that I think I know the answer too. If the site is fairly simple already, it probably would be easiest just to build it fresh on the newest version, correct?

If it's small and easy to port the content, yes it would be less work to just start fresh.
