Addind my own backstretch

I am not really happy to have the blue strips down the side of my webpage. I think I need to add a backtretsch and want to add my own image. How do I do it or do I he to buy one.
Preferably I'd like my webpage to span the whole screen but I don't know how to do that either.
Can you help?
