css caching?

I have a theme that uses a certain font. The site has been customised slightly using the customize function on the themes page in the dashboard. The font is is customisable but I have not changed it.
The site needs the whole of its font style changed. I have done this in the themes css and deleted the cache both using c5 and ftp.
But for some reason the old type face keeps coming along.
Why is this happening?
