Dark Chocolate & Halloween not installing properly

I have just installed V5.6.2.1 on a clients site and activated Dark Chocolate as the theme. On going to edit the site there is no image or nav in the head and if I attempt to put either one in it just sits over the site name.
I then thought well that's bust I will find another option and picked the Halloween theme (I want a free one as the client is a local community music group with very little money). Having installed this it keeps asking me to log in (when I already am) and the edit/dashboard bar is all black and unavailable.
Either something is very wrong or I am having a terrible run of luck.
Ideas anyone?

I think that theme was a little dated code wise. Did my best to update it. Try the attached version.

Thanks for that, only problem I have is having run the install, it does not show up in Themes so I can't activate it.

where did you put theme? in your root/themes/ folder or root/concrete/themes folder? Also, did you extract the zip file?
I extracted the zip file and put it in root/concrete/themes and in root/packages as this was advised inhttp://www.concrete5.org/documentation/how-tos/editors/download-man... In Dashboard/Extend I can see the theme with an edit button which it says will install the theme. Hit that and then went back to Themes.
That link you provided is for addons not themes. Your new theme should go in the root/themes folder.
And you will go to Dashboard -> Themes to install the new theme and activate it.
