Default Theme not showing after Installation ?

Hi,

I believe I did a common beginner mistake and edited the default original theme, however, after re-installing concrete5 again with the latest version, still the default theme is not showing as it should here:http://www.mduque.com/concrete/...

I went to dashboard and choose different theme Plain Yogurt and pressed Activate and I don't see the default text or images

Any help is much appreciated. Thank you.

Feels like something is off here...

Try to copy the complete folder 'concrete/themes' (including all content) from your downloaded zip to your web server ('root/concrete/themes').

That way you will make sure you have all the files necessary.

If that works (which I guess it should) and you want to edit a core theme you should follow this how-to: http://www.concrete5.org/documentation/how-tos/editors/customize-a-...

Hi adajad,

Thank you for your reply.
I tried your suggestions and still doesn't show. So I deleted again the whole thing, including the sql user and db, reinstalling it again but manually this time.

The first two times I installed with Softaculous from Lunarpages. One thing I find it odd (I'm new with concrete5) , is the zip file comes with two almost identical set of subfolders as the image shows:

http://i41.tinypic.com/30t6suq.jpg...

Inside concrete5.6.2.1 2 > themes folder, is empty. However, inside concrete5.6.2.1 2 > concrete > themes folder , has all the themes:

core
dark_chocolate
dashboard
default
gree_yogurt
greensalad

Copying all the files now in the server through FTP. It is taking a while... will update this post if successful.

The file structure is there for easier overrides.

Don't play with the files in the core (that is anything inside 'root/concrete' folder), since you might break stuff unintentionally and you won't have an easy way to set things right. Also, when updating your installation a new core will be used and all your edits inside the concrete directory will be for nothing.

If you want to do minor changes it's better to make overrides. To make an override you just copy the file you want to edit and move it to the folder with the same name outside the concrete folder.

For example,

Say you want to edit the mail template used whenever a new user signs up on your site. What you do then is you copy the file 'user_register.php' from 'root/concrete/mail' and put the copy in 'root/mail'. You can then edit the copy as much as you like.

Concrete5 will first look in your outer directories for the files and use the ones found. If you screw up your edits it's easy to revert back to the core by simply deleting your copy or renaming it to something else.

Edit: Same thing with other words can be seen here: http://www.concrete5.org/documentation/introduction/overrides...

Did you select to install the default content when you installed concrete5?

If you don't install the default content, all you get is a blank home page to build out from.

Hi JohntheFish,

I didn't know that. Glad you just told me that. The first two times, I installed it through Softaculous from Lunarpages, now I'm attempting to install it manually and let see how it goes. Files being uploaded now.

Will keep you posted of my progress.
Again, thank you for your help. Much appreciated too.

Bingo! It is working wonderfully now! Thank you adajad and JohntheFish for your help. Much appreciated.

adajad, I read the link you sent. That explains precisely how I should not touch the core system files (how would I have guessed since I'm totally new in concrete5). Also, why concrete5.zip comes with almost two identical set of subfolders.
One is core system files and the other is for testing sort of "play ground".

Moving onto chapter 2 now from the concrete5 Beginner's guide - 2nd edition.

Also, JohntheFish, based on what you said, I think lunarpages when does the automatic installation does not to install a Sample content site, instead installs an empty site.

Thank you two for such a great help. Appreciated.
