Dummy Text
Permalink
Hi,
I'm converting HTML/CSS theme to C5.
All going ok (with the odd glitch), but I would like my theme to have sample content in, instead of empty blocks.
I know how to limit the editable areas to a single block, but I want to populate the editable text areas with some sample text and same for image areas.
I have tried looking at existing themes but I can't work it out.
I'm not very skilled in PHP, so be gentle with me :)
Thanks
Allison

Maybe I'm missing something, but if you already have an editable area wouldn't you just use the Content block to fill it in with dummy/lorem text and images?
Lucas is right but I think (and could be wrong) that if your content areas are the same names in your theme as Plain Yoghurt and you said yes to install sample content when you set up your C5 then the original sample content should appear in those blocks.
Thanks guys,
What I am trying to do is pre-populate the site just like plain yoghurt.
The reason is that although I am building the basic site, somebody else will be adding content.
I want to make it painfully obvious to them that "text goes here", "An image goes here" etc etc because the person editing will be extremely non-technical.
I want to idiot-proof it! :)
At the moment when you add a new page the editable areas are there but you have to select a block - I think they won't even know what block type to select, so I was gonna put some Lorem Ipsum in a content block and some dummy images in where the pics should go - otherwise they will be totally wrecking the page layout if I'm not careful!
Looks like I didn't select the option for dummy text when I installed, but is there any way of doing it on a block-by-block basis or at least specifying Content Block, or Image, or Slideshow for my pre-defined editable areas?
Many thanks
Al

Go to:
- Dashboard
- Pages and Themes
- Page Types
click on "Add a Page type" or on "default" of an existing one.
From there on select the page layout and build your basic page with the blocks you need.
save it.
You can then use the page you just made as a default when creating a new page. it has all basic blocks you added in the type included so you only have to make the page specific changes on the new page.
ofcourse if you are placing all the paged you can move those around on new pages but you can build a basic like this.

Ahh! I see!
Thanks so much, now it makes sense.
