Ecommerce Templates

I am new to concrete5 but with the research I have done, it looks like the best. I have had an ecommerce website that I built with FrontPage 2002. I would go with Exp Web 4 but I understand that it is very difficult, so I am looking here. I am trying to find some ecommerce templates that have catagories listed on the left hand side as departments. I am also looking for the template to cover the screen instead of being right in the middle. Of course, they have to coincide with concrete5.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi, I am not into eCommerce at all and have not looket at templates.
Are you familiar with css at all? If you know a little you can use almost any template for anything.
For instance if you want to make a template broader or cover the full screen just look into the main css of the theme and edit the width from there.
When I am looking for a theme to use I usually look at the page structure first, i.e. where the main navigation, the header, the footer ... are located what is editable on the front end and what is hard coded in the main.css, default.php ... etc.
All the rest, colors, background images, ... can be edited with a little knowledge of css and html.

Thanks for your input. I didn't realize the flexibility of either concrete5 or the newer templates or both. When I purchased the template that I currently use, it was very difficult to alter. That's what I was basing my thoughts on.

Thanks again.

Several of the E-commerce templates have extra tie-ins for the e-commerce package and in that regards may be your best starting point if you plan on using the very helpful e-commerce add-on.

It seems I'm learning all the time. I did not know that there was an ecommerce add-on.

Thanks much.

There are also several add-ons that extend upon the e-commerce package for payments, digital downloads to sell software and a host of other things that may be on your site outline. I personally would not approach an e-com build without it.

In the marketplace add-on section there is a filter by category option on the right side, click off ecommerce or search ecommerce and you will see all of the various options that will help your build go smoothly.

Thanks again. In reading some of the basics on the site I noticed that they don't recommend concrete5 for large ecommerce sites. I carry about 3000 products from many wholesalers. What do you think?

I have seen several C5 built e-commerce sites with 20'000 plus products that have had no issues. With that being said C5 has stated that it was built for commerce solutions with a smaller product line.
I think the real issue is product management and how many categories of products you have. If you have 500 categories it will be very impractical to sort those with the package. Other than that I personally can't see any issues with 3000 products.

You may want to send a pre-sale question to get some insight from someone from the core team just to be sure what your options are, and whether its practical for your project.

Would anyone know if Concrete5 would work with templates that have the shopping cart built in? I have seen those for Dreamweaver and Expression Web but no mention of Concrete5.

The e-commerce package has a shopping cart built in that you place on your page as a block, and works with any theme.

There is also an ajax option here
