editing themes remove side bar for example
Permalink
Hi, I'm new to this.
Is there a way to simply edit a theme, for example remove the side bar, add a horizontal links bar, change the background picture?
On one of my initial installs there was a very simple default template which has only one column and horizontal links bar at the top, where is this template?
Thanks very much for any help,
Jacques

What theme are you using now? Typically there is a "full" page type you can apply so there is no sidebar!
I'm using plain yogurt. I've downloaded quite a few of them: plain yogurt, CV folio, floating, Eloquent, they all have side bars, haven't found one without a side bar.

if you go to a page and hover the edit button and click design, you can select "full" to have the page with no sidebar ;)
If you don't select a page type your default page type will be used which usually does have a sidebar,
You need to go into edit mode on your page, hover over the "Edit" button and click the "Design" button,
From the page types select a "Full" one click Save, you should be good to go..

Sorry @enlil, we posted at the same time..
Great minds think alike :D
OK, that's very helpful, however, there remains a vertical line where the sidebar used to be.
What about page types, how do I add page types?
Thanks

the page is called scottboyd.com
Page types are files within your theme, such as left_sidebar.php, of full.php. In their simplest form they can be copied to a new filename like mycustom_page_type.php and then installed for use through the dashboard. You can do virtually anything within the files as far as customization if you're interested in creating elaborate custom page types!!
If I'm not mistaken that line ended up being an image file somewhere when i went to remove it once long long ago...
