Form block text area width problem

Can anyone point me to where I can adjust the width of the text areas so that their default view is the same width as the other text fields? (see example attached)
I have placed the Form block in a left sidebar (244px wide) and the default width on loading is wider than the text fields in the same form.
Also, the text area doesn't have the same slightly recessed appearance. Why is that?
