Forums with media content

i'm looking to build a website based mostly around a forum atmosphere. i want to let users have the ability to upload pictures and or video to share their progress or show results. a friend of mine recommend that i use concrete because of it's easiness to use. easy if fine if it gets the results i'm looking for. previously i had used joomla for a different website and like it's extensibility and choice of addons. since i am paying for the website and maintaining it i'm not looking into paying $50 for an addon each time i want to add a feature. this seems to be the approach of concrete from what i can tell. it takes a lot more hard work with joomla but the reward is more money that stays in my own pocket. question is: will there be a forum option with media included as part of the core functionality of concrete or are you only interested in getting paid for add-ons?
I do not believe that forums will be part of the core anytime soon, but the forums that you can buy allow you to upload files.
the key word there for me being "buy" i am trying to stay away from modular site building where i have to pay for each module for new features. the nice thing about the joomla site i built was forum integration. when someone became a new site user they were automatically integrated into the forum as well
I don't think C5 is going to be the best solution to your particular problem. I've found C5's editing interface to be much easier to use for non-technical people than Joomla's, but this only really applies to the person maintaining the site (not every user who is participating in a forum). If the forum were just one part of an otherwise straightforward content managed site, I'd say it would be worth the trouble to buy or build your own solution, but since the forums are the primary purpose of your site you are probably better off with something like vBulletin (or Joomla if you're already familiar with it).
As for the "buy" thing, I agree that it's nicer to not have to pay for modules (of course). But it's really a trade-off between paying money and putting in your own time to get things working the right way. It sounds like you have more time than budget so again, the C5 model might not be the best solution for your particular problem.
Best of luck.
