Hi all,

have followed Concrete5 for a while now predominately a WordPress user however I have an idea for a site and Concrete5 might just do it.

My question is this, I actually rather like the site you have for concrete5, in particular I like the add-ons section.

I wondered what modules were used to create this section and if there is a theme that looks similar?

Any help appreciated!

Cheers

Ben

The add-on used for the Marketplace is based on the eccomerce Add-on.

I am not sure about the theme, we always build our own.

Thanks for coming back to me on this.

I am a total newb when it comes to Concrete5, been using wordpress for a while now.

However I like the idea of concrete5. If I give you a run down you might be able to advise me if its possible?

Basically I am looking at creating a review site reviewing software etc from around the web, CMS systems, apps etc.

What I do like about the system is the filter system you have in the marketplace section for different products. Is this easily achievable?

Also am interested in creating my own marketplace for end users to purchase downloads music etc from each other rate the seller play demos etc.

Just wondered if this was at all possible with C5? Once I have a grounding I would like to contribute to the community (just finished reading Web Designer Mag obviously you guys are in it) keen to offer advice as I learn from a laymans perspective for us newbs!

Cheers

Hi Ben

Yes everything you want to do is achievable in concrete5, however it will not do everything you are looking for out of the box (but neither will anything else).

concrete5 has the foundations for everything you need but in order to get a really slick solution you would need to do quite a bit of work. We work with many CMS's and frameworks and for this kind of thing you are talking about we would use concrete5 by preference.

When you come across Open Source projects like concrete5 it is easy to think wow this does everything, but the reality is far more complex and specific, no platform will fit all your needs without a little extra programming. The trick is to find the balance between cost and the end result.

We have found that where concrete5 excels, is in the ability to build quite complex apps that are deeply integrated with the core without have to make any core mods. It has been very well thought out from an architectural point of view. This makes it easy to design your application and make sure you get the UI right so it is super easy to use.

The concrete5 community is one of the best I know so you will always get answers to reasonable questions. Please feel free to PM me if you need to know more. Also if you found this helpful please mark this as an answer.

Cheers
