Horizontal menu

I'm currently using the default Plain Yogurt theme and I'm trying to figure out how to get the main menu to display horizontally. I've searched in the forum and the documentation, but now I'm more confused than before.
Here's what I'm trying to accomplish. Have one menu (first level) display horizontally and the other menu (second and other levels) display vertically. I've attached a screenshot so you can get a better idea. Right now, all the menus are displayed vertically.
I understand this can be done via CSS, but I guess I need specific instructions as to how to accomplish this because I haven't been able to figure it out. Can someone help me?

Thank you stromberg. That is exactly the kind of answer I was looking for. Descriptive, simple and straight to the point. And this is even easier to do than I thought. No need to complicate my life with coding CSS for this, it's already all there. Great!
Thank you again! :)
Thank you again! :)
You're welcome.
I'm not sure how far you've progressed familiarizing with c5, but before you start manually placing auto-nav blocks on every page you create, you can make that block (and any other you might want as well) show up by default by editing page defaults.
There's a screencast for this: http://www.concrete5.org/documentation/how-tos/editors/share-conten...
Cheers!

stromberg, you're the best! There was one thing that I found annoying and you just solved that without me asking. Do you read minds? ;)
I'm still fairly green with C5, but I know I'm going to use it for my business site. It's so much easier to understand and work with than other CMS packages I've used.
I will be developing my own theme, so you might see me posting more questions down the road. But first, I'm playing with C5 to get a better understanding of how it works. The more I play, the more I like it! :)

:D
Myriam, I was just guessing - your initial question was almost exactly like one issue I had when I started with c5, and the page default thing came just shortly afterwards for me too... it's just probably something beginners typically run into. :) --
I picked c5 as an intranet platform after evaluating several other CMS packages mainly because of its Page editing approach and its user interface.
Anyway, have fun playing around!
Cheers!

How do you add a horizontal menu that is NOT the header nav bar?
The instructions here do not work for adding a horizontal menu after the banner.
The instructions here do not work for adding a horizontal menu after the banner.
first off: Welcome to the forums!
What you need to do is easy:
1) go into edit mode
2) click on your header navigation
3) choose "Custom template" from the context menu (see screenshot 1)
4) choose "Header menu" from the drop-down menu (see screenshot 2)
5) click "update" and you're done!
