Images in themes don't show up

Hi,
I'm an incredibly new noobie, and I'm trying to start a new webpage hosted on MacHighway. I installed concrete5 and been able to set up the webpage, but regardless of which of the pre-installed themes I use, none of the images that come with the theme will show up-- I'm using Plain Yogurt and there's just a black spot where the pretty trees should be. All of the themes are doing the same thing.
I appreciate any help!

make sure the /files directory is chmoded 777 recursivly
Can you explain that to me, please. I'm having the same problem, but what you wrote makes no sense to me.
